Country singer Garth Brooks has a number of projects in the works — one of those being to bring a police substation downtown.
The Friends in Low Places singer hopes to partner with the city of Nashville on a new development plan to build a police substation inside a three-story entertainment center and bar on 411 Broadway in downtown.
Brooks aims to build the police station in an alleyway adjacent to the three-story building.
According to a press release, Brooks will pay for the development at no cost to taxpayers.
The aim is to provide greater resources for Metro police and Nashville Department of Transportation Multimodal Infrastructure to control traffic and boost safety in the busy nightlife district.
The country star’s development plan requires Metro Council support for the go-ahead. If approved, the city will authorize the police substation development in an alleyway space adjacent to Brooks’ new bar.
Nashville Mayor John Cooper spoke about the possible development in a statement.
“Lower Broadway is an iconic destination … but as Nashvillians know well, it can also create safety and traffic challenges that my office is working hard to tackle across multiple fronts. These additional resources will add new tools to reduce traffic and improve community safety downtown while continuing to prioritize other initiatives for neighborhoods and families throughout Davidson County.”
Brooks purchased the building — which previously belonged to Downtown Sporting Club — for roughly $48 million in 2021.
The seven-time CMA Awards’ Entertainer of the Year will partner with Nashville restaurant and bar management company Strategic Hospitality to run the space.
