Port Arthur Police Department

A Texas burglar was caught on video doing some late-night yard work with a stolen lawnmower before running from police in a bizarre incident that took place on the night of April 1.

According to the Port Arthur Police Department, the suspect took a red gas-powered lawnmower from a home “without the owner’s consent” before deciding to try it out on the victim’s grass.

Surveillance video released by the PAPD shows the suspect considering stealing a bicycle before taking greater interest in the lawnmower. He then fills the lawnmower with gas before proceeding to mow the front and back yards of his victim’s home.

Police say they were called by a Port Arthur resident who told them an “unknown man” was mowing their lawn. The suspect, later identified as Marcus Hubbard, fled on foot when police arrived.

Apparently, Hubbard dragged the lawnmower behind him for a bit before deciding to abandon it in a nearby alley. He then evaded apprehension.

PAPD speculates that Hubbard wanted to make sure the lawnmower was in good condition before stealing it, so he decided to first test it on the homeowner’s grass.

Hubbard’s whereabouts remain unknown. He is wanted on burglary charges.
