DALLAS — New bodycam footage shows the moments leading up to and after two Dallas Methodist Hospital nurses were murdered by a suspect in a maternity hospital ward in October.
The footage, shared by WFAA News, shows the suspect, Nestor Hernandez, step into the maternity ward hospital room with his girlfriend just before assaulting her with a handgun after he became enraged during an argument, according to police.
A nurse at the hospital, Jacqueline Pokuaa, then entered to check on Hernandez’s girlfriend. The video does not show what happened to Pokuaa after she entered the room, but from Sgt. Robert Rangel’s bodycam, you can hear the gunshot.
Viewers can hear a second shot through Rangel’s bodycam video, which police say was fired toward Rangel as he approached the hospital room to investigate what was occurring, WFAA News reported.
Shortly after, viewers can hear a third shot as Hernandez wounded another responding nurse, Annette Flowers, who then ran to get aid while Rangel called for backup on his radio.
As Hernandez reloaded his weapon and attempted to leave the room, Rangel fired one shot, hitting the suspect in the leg causing a short standoff to ensue.
“Partner, we can work this out, man,” one responding officer could be heard saying on the video. “Trust me.”
Hernandez responded: “Ain’t no working s— out, bro.”
Officers were eventually able to enter the room and take Hernandez into custody. After a short hospital visit, Hernandez was taken to the Dallas County Jail, where he remains. At the time of the shooting, Hernandez was out of prison on parole after getting an eight-year sentence in 2015 for aggravated robbery.
