HOUSTON — Last month, Houston police officers attempted to pull over a driver who was driving erratically in an area known to them for narcotics activity. After refusing to stop, officers initiated a pursuit, which eventually led to the driver losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a tree. Moments later, the driver opened fire on the officers, firing several shots toward the officers through his windshield.

The incident, which happened on November 17, involved suspect Anthony Garcia, 34, who was later charged with two counts of attempted capital murder of a police officer, felony evading arrest and felon in possession of a weapon, Click2Houston.com reported. In video released by the Houston PD, Garcia is shown armed with a VSKA AK-style pistol. Two Houston officers, J. Ready and C. Wade, were uninjured in the shooting.

The officers can be seen exiting their vehicle and returning fire, striking Garcia several times. After the exchange of gunfire, the officers approach Garcia’s vehicle, verbally commanding him to raise his hands. Garcia, who was out on parole and wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the shootout, was taken into custody without further incident.

Garcia suffered an entry wound to his upper leg and a graze wound on his arm. He’s currently being held at a county jail on $5 million bond.
