LOS ANGELES — California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers pulled a unique move on a suspect during a recent pursuit in Los Angeles, effectively ending the multi-county game of cat-and-mouse by distracting the driver.

Video shows the driver, who was initially pursued due to a lack of plates on his car, attempting to elude officers on surface streets from East Los Angeles to South Bay, KTLA News reported.

Then officers tried a new tactic. A CHP officer can be seen in the footage pulling alongside the driver and beginning a conversation from his police cruiser. As the suspect spoke with that officer through the window of his vehicle, three other police cars were used to block the man in from all sides, ending the pursuit.

The suspect was arrested and taken into custody after a short scuffle, according to KTLA News. Additional video of the pursuit is available below.
