COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia woman was arrested after leading Coweta County deputies on a 124-mph pursuit in the rain while her five kids were unbuckled in the backseat.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, police initially pulled over Gloris Hairston, 30, for driving in the rain without her headlights engaged. Deputies later discovered Hairston’s driver’s license had been suspended six times and it was not valid at that time.
Hairston’s passenger, 25-year-old Tramaine Denson, was wanted for a probation violation for aggravated assault and had a warrant issued by the Los Angeles Police for a firearms charge, with a warning from the LAPD that the individual might be dangerous to law enforcement.
After stopping and being questioned by police, Denson suddenly shifted the car into drive and yelled for the woman to pull out. A 124-mph pursuit between police and the suspects ensued.
Police bodycam video shows Hairston hit another SUV and keep going. The deputy tried to pin her in, but the woman pushed his patrol car into oncoming traffic. Eventually, another deputy performed a PIT maneuver on the car and it lost control. Denson then jumped from the car and attempted to run, but he was tackled by an officer and arrested. Hairston surrendered, according to police.
As officers began searching the vehicle, they found Hairston’s five children, ranging in age from 5 to 12, in the backseat with their seatbelts unbuckled. The children were unhurt and turned over to a relative. Investigators also found a loaded gun and drugs.
Hairston is facing felony charges of aggravated assault, hit-and-run, fleeing and attempting to elude, drug possession, child safety seat violations and cruelty to children, according to FOX 5. Denson is facing weapons, drug and fleeing charges, along with other outstanding warrants from Georgia and California.
