A helpful Hopewell, Virginia, police officer is being praised for helping a stranded driver get to his destination after his car ran out of gas.

According to a Facebook post from the Hopewell Police Department, one of their officers came to the rescue of a vehicle stranded on the side of the road on December 27 and gave it a refill of gas.

The department said Officer Martin noticed a vehicle stopped on the roadside as he drove past. After speaking to the driver, Martin learned that his vehicle had run out of gas. The officer then went “the extra mile” and drove to the nearest gas station, where he purchased gas and a gas can for the driver, who was able to fill up his tank and continue on to his destination.

“We as an agency are proud of the work that is being done by our officers day in and day out. Thank you Officer Martin!” the department wrote.
