funeralThere is no such chant, nor has there ever been. Our partners attend services out of respect, and will enter and exit a service as a group (the reference to the “Cravath walk”) as a demonstration of collective honoring of their colleague if the family wishes that they do so.

— Fallon Szczur, who serves as head of communications at Cravath, in comments given to Daniel Stone, who recently wrote an extensive research piece on the “Cravath Walk,” which is what happens when partners walk down the aisle at a deceased Cravath partner’s funeral, while reportedly chanting, “The partner is dead, the firm lives.” Both the firm and many Cravath partners, past and present, have denied that any such chant exists.
