A Michigan police officer showed his human side by comforting a driver in distress who was stopped on the side of the road and going through an emotional time.

Macomb County Sheriff’s Deputy Thorne was on patrol in early February when he stopped to check on a driver on the side of the road.

“Is there anything I can do to help you?” Thorne asked the driver. “I could use a hug,” the driver responded.

As seen on body-camera video, Deputy Thorne then hugged the young man and comforted him for about 20 minutes.

According to police, the driver told them he stopped due to personal issues.

Apparently, a driver had called police after they thought the man was passed out in his vehicle.

The man, who was clearly in an emotional state and tearful, told police that he was not suicidal.

Thorne, along with fellow deputy Parisek, also offered the man mental health resources and said he could call them any time.
