MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Police Department has released body-worn camera footage from the struggle between officers and a robbery suspect in February that ended with the shooting death of one officer.

The footage begins at the time officers located a previously reported stolen vehicle with two persons inside, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. Terrell Thompson was identified as the suspect of the stolen vehicle and a woman exited the vehicle as officers approached.

Thompson eventually ran and is pursued by officer Peter Jerving and another unnamed officer.

After Thompson slips on the snow, the second officer catches up with him and they struggle with each other. As Jerving approached, his body camera footage shows Thompson producing a semi-automatic pistol and firing several shots.

Jerving reports shots are fired over the radio and then re-engages with the second officer as he struggles with Thompson. Jerving sustained multiple gunshot wounds and later died at a hospital. Thompson died at the scene.

Hours before the incident, Thompson had appeared in court for sentencing on two misdemeanor hit-and-run cases, one of which was dismissed in a plea agreement. He had received one year of probation. Later in the evening, Thompson was reported as the suspect in an armed robbery.
