It looks like someone took the “Don’t drink and drive” message a little too literally on St. Patrick’s Day in Ohio.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, an allegedly intoxicated driver crashed into a sign that was meant to stop impaired driving. Talk about irony!

The state patrol received a call about a reckless driver on State Route 32 in Batavia. When troopers arrived at the scene, they found that a blue Ford Focus coupe had crashed into a sign that instructed people to call #677 if they spotted drug activity or impaired drivers.

Well, it looks like the driver did not need to make that call because they were already caught in the act.

Photos taken at the scene show the sign knocked down flat, as if it had given up trying to stop the drunk driver. The car also spun around and ended up facing the wrong way, as if it was trying to make a quick getaway but failed miserably.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed that the driver was arrested for OVI.

“On St. Patrick’s Day, our Batavia Post received a call for a reckless vehicle on SR 32. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle crashed, striking our @OSHP drug activity/impaired driver sign. This motorist was arrested for OVI,” the state patrol Southwest Ohio division wrote on Twitter.

Let’s hope they learned their lesson. Remember, folks, if you’re going to drink, don’t drive. And if you see a reckless driver, call #677. Just don’t crash into any signs on the way.
