A California school resource officer in Sacramento County went above and beyond the call of duty recently to help a student who had their bike stolen from Folsom High School.
Folsom SRO Morgan Sears said the student’s bike lock was severed while attached to a bike rack on campus. The student was in class at the time of the theft.
After failing to come up with any leads about who may have stolen the bike or how to retrieve it, Sears decided to get the student a brand-new ride.
Sears partnered with a local Dick’s Sporting Goods to donate a new bike to the student, as she needed it to get to and from school.
Sears later privately presented the bike to the student, along with fellow officers and the manager of the sporting goods store.
“Officer Sears took it upon herself to turn this negative into positive and she didn’t do it for any notoriety,” Folsom Police Chief Rick Hillman said. “She is just a good person who went the extra mile to help someone in need. She loves being a School Resource Officer because she truly loves working with our Folsom kids.”
“We appreciate Officer Sears’ outstanding work and excellent community partners willing to help,” the police department wrote in a news release.
