In a strange story from the Sunshine State, two angry goats recently found themselves locked up in a Florida jail after authorities were summoned to break up their rowdy brawl taking place in the middle of the street in front of someone’s yard.

The eventful scene unfolded on the night of April 30 in Palatka, a town located 60 miles south of Jacksonville, when a concerned citizen alerted the police about a “fight in progress” that was upsetting residents in the neighborhood.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office couldn’t resist cracking a few jokes themselves about the absurd arrest, adding some much-needed humor to the situation.

In a Facebook post, they cheekily revealed: “The suspects were pretty maaaadd at one another and the fight escalated into the yards of nearby residences. Both were pretty hard-headed, but officers managed to separate, wrangle, and bring them to the Putnam County Jail.”

A photograph captured the moment when the hoofed combatants were reluctantly led away by law enforcement personnel on leashes. The goats were only detained in the “jail farm” for a short while before their rightful owners were contacted via social media (thanks to community tips) and reunited.

The sheriff’s office shared a heartwarming update that drew laughs from Facebook users. The post, which surfaced on May 1, garnered 500 reactions and comments within 48 hours.

One witness, who seemed to have been entertained by the ongoing saga, revealed that the goats had been engaged in fisticuffs for an entire weekend.

“All I can hear right now is someone saying, ‘Arrest them!’ They’ve been out here fighting,” Frankia Clark said.

Meanwhile, Julie Bonham, exclaimed: “The funnier part is that this is actually true events.”

Others like David Darby threw some parental concern into the hypothetical scenario.

“It’s 10 o’clock, do you know where your kids are?” he joked.

Kareem B. Faison, on the other hand, sympathized with the weary officers who had to confront the pair of goats in the middle of the night. “Imagine being a police officer having to respond to this at night. I would’ve sat there and watched them go at it.”
