Amid the usual array of sparkling ads and event promotions along the Las Vegas strip, there was a new player last week: dazzling billboards featuring the latest in legal tech.

This year’s CLOC Global Institute drew 2,500 registrants representing 1,000 companies, taking over the sprawling Bellagio resort. It also brought a barrage of major legal tech announcements, while featuring a packed schedule of panels, happy hours, and even a hiking daytrip.

Each CLOC event carries a unique energy — a camaraderie and excitement among professionals who are collaborating across organizations to shape the future of a rapidly growing and evolving field.

“We are a group that lifts each other up,” says Stephanie Corey, a CLOC co-founder who now leads the consulting firm UpLevel Ops. “We help each other, we share best practices, we tell others what worked for us and what didn’t work for us.”

To bring you a sense of this event, Above the Law and UpLevel Ops have put together “Viva Ops Vegas,” a series of video interviews with leaders in the legal ops and legal tech world. (The interviews were recorded at the event by Heather Reid of UpLevel Ops and Jeremy Barker of Above the Law.)

Stay tuned for more videos, where we’ll be posting more attendees’ observations.

Here, in the first installment, we share select views on how legal operations has evolved.
