Judge Bridget Mary McCormack, a retired Michigan Supreme Court chief justice, is slated to serve as the next council chair of the ABA’s Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar during the next term.

Now the president and CEO of the American Arbitration Association, McCormack currently is the chair-elect to the council and will replace current chair Joseph West, a partner and the chief diversity equity and inclusion officer at Duane Morris.

Leading the Michigan Supreme Court when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, McCormack was an early supporter of remote hearings. She also was a 2021 ABA Journal Legal Rebel.

The council’s slate will be presented in August during the 2023 ABA Annual Meeting, according to a web announcement.

David A. Brennen, a former dean at the University of Kentucky College of Law, is slated as chair-elect, and Daniel Thies, a partner at Webber & Thies, is slated as the vice-chair. Charles R. Nash, formerly the vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Alabama system, is slated to be reelected as secretary of the council.

Additionally, the web announcement said four new council members are slated for election in August. They are Colorado Supreme Court Justice Melissa Hart, Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan L. Hecht, José Roberto Juárez Jr., the dean of Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law, and Scott B. Pagel, a professor and associate dean for information services at the George Washington University Law School.

Jehan Senai Worthy, who attends the University of Massachusetts School of Law, is slated as the council’s Law Student Division member, and Leo Martinez, the former dean of the University of California College of the Law at San Francisco, who also was the council chair, is slated to serve as the section representative for the ABA House of Delegates.
