K9 Chase succumbed to heat-related injuries when the air conditioner malfunctioned in his handler’s patrol vehicle around 2 pm.
Officers and K9s participated in scheduled active shooter drills at Allatoona High School at 3300 Dallas Acworth Highway in Acworth. K9 Officers checked on their K9s every 45 minutes. K9 Chase’s handler noticed that the air conditioner was not running during one of the breaks. Despite life-saving efforts, K9 Chase died at a local veterinarian clinic.
K9 Chase had served with the Cobb County Police Department for over three years. As a K9 trained for narcotics detection and criminal apprehension, K9 Chase seized thousands of dollars worth of illegal narcotics and helped with numerous arrests.
K9 Chase was named after Patrolman Chase Maddox of the Locust Grove Police Department, Georgia.
