CLEVELAND, Ohio — Euclid police Tuesday released body-worn camera footage from an incident involving an officer shooting a car theft suspect last week.

Police were responding to a traffic stop at about 12:30 p.m. June 7 involving a stolen Hyundai Sonata. Officers chased the vehicle to Kenwood Village Apartments, near East 222nd Street and Fox Avenue, where the incident occurred.

Kevin Idom, 18, exited the vehicle with what appears to be a gun in his left hand. Police said Idom pointed the gun at two officers. In the video from police, Idiom denies holding a weapon.

Police attempted to restrain him before chasing him a short distance and shooting him in the leg and then rendering first aid.

Idom, of Cleveland, was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg, police said.

He is facing a charge of felonious assault, according to Euclid Municipal Court records.

A 14-year-old was taken into custody. A Euclid detective suffered an injury to his leg and was also transported to the hospital for treatment. The injury was not gun-related.

At 4:35 p.m. a 16-year-old who ran away from the scene and was considered armed and dangerous turned himself in at the Euclid Police Department. He was escorted there by an adult family member, police said.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is examining the incident.
