K9 Harrie succumbed to heatstroke after tracking subjects who fled on foot after crashing a stolen vehicle at David Raines Road and Skelly Street.
At 4:15 pm, K9 Harrie and his handler were assisting officers in locating the subjects who abandoned a stolen vehicle after a pursuit. When K9 Harrie suffered a heat-related injury, he was transferred to the Animal Emergency Clinic and Intensive Care Facility, where efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
Shreveport’s temperatures were in the 90s, with “feels-like” temperatures well above 100 degrees.
K9 Harrie had served with the Shreveport Police Department for six years.
