A recent routine trespassing call in Texarkana, Texas, took a dramatic turn when two police officers found themselves rescuing a woman who was hanging upside down from a second-story window.
On June 8, Texarkana Officers Aaron Jones and Lauren Freeman responded to a report of a woman trespassing at an apartment complex.
While the officers were speaking with the apartment complex manager to gather information about the woman, they heard a scream and rushed upstairs to investigate. To their surprise, they discovered a 57-year-old woman dangling from a window by her foot.
Police believe the woman had attempted to escape through the window, but it unexpectedly shut, trapping her foot and leaving her suspended upside down.
Acting swiftly, Jones and Freeman held onto the woman’s ankle, preventing her from falling to the ground below.
The entire ordeal was captured on the officers’ body cameras.
Officer Shawn Vaughn, spokesperson for the Texarkana Texas Police Department, commended the officers’ heroic efforts.
“The whole time you can hear the officer on the body camera say, I don’t think I can keep holding her. They were doing everything they could. His arms had to have been burning when he got done with this. He did manage to hold onto her,” Vaughn said.
Vaughn added that the officers maintained their hold on the woman’s ankle for over five minutes until the Texarkana Texas Fire Department arrived at the scene with a ladder. The fire department swiftly assisted in bringing the woman safely down to the ground.
Fortunately, the woman did not sustain any major injuries during the incident. However, she has since been banned from the property, as per the apartment complex’s decision.
Jones and Freeman admitted to feeling exhausted by the end of the rescue operation but expressed relief that the situation had been successfully resolved.
The Texarkana Texas Police Department praised the quick thinking and bravery displayed by Jones and Freeman, emphasizing their dedication to protecting the community.
