Armed man accused of threatening Kavanaugh is arrested near justice’s home
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
A man with a weapon was arrested early Wednesday near the Maryland home of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
The Supreme Court confirmed the arrest, first reported by the Washington Post, in a statement.
Law360, Law.com, Bloomberg and CNN are among the publications with coverage of the arrest by Maryland police.
“At approximately 1:50 a.m. today, a man was arrested near Justice Kavanaugh’s residence,” a Supreme Court spokeswoman said in the statement. “The man was armed and made threats against Justice Kavanaugh. He was transported to Montgomery County Police 2nd District.”
Unnamed sources familiar with the investigation told the Washington Post that the man was apparently angry about the leaked draft opinion overturning the right to abortion and recent mass shootings.
The sources described the man as being from California and in his mid-20s. He apparently did not make it onto Kavanaugh’s property, the Washington Post said.
