After more than four years on the run, Nebraska inmate Antonio Collier was arrested on June 11 by the Roseville Police Department in Michigan.

Collier had been missing since May 19, 2019, after he failed to return to the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, following permission to attend a local church.

Collier began his sentence on April 3, 2018, after being convicted on a burglary charge in Douglas County, Nebraska.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services revealed that he was housed in the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln, a facility known for being the least restrictive, granting inmates the opportunity to participate in work, school and religious services with prior approval and minimal supervision.

“CCC-L is one of two community custody facilities operated by NDCS,” the department said. “Community custody is the lowest custody level and the least restrictive facility. Inmates are allowed to participate in work opportunities, attend school and religious services with prior approval and without direct supervision.”

The circumstances surrounding Collier’s escape raised concerns about the security measures in place at the Community Corrections Center. It remains unclear how he managed to evade authorities for such an extended period before his eventual arrest in Michigan.

Upon learning of Collier’s arrest, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services released a statement.

“We are relieved that Antonio Collier has been apprehended after his extended absence from the Community Corrections Center. The safety and security of the public are of utmost importance to us, and we are committed to investigating the details surrounding his escape to prevent similar incidents in the future,” the department wrote.

The exact events leading to Collier’s arrest in Roseville, Michigan, are yet to be disclosed, but authorities confirmed that he was taken into custody without incident. Following his apprehension, Collier was transported to the Macomb County Jail in Mount Clemens, Michigan.

The news of Collier’s arrest came as a shock to many in Nebraska, who had presumed him to be on the run indefinitely. Local residents expressed relief that he was back in custody, as his escape had left them feeling uneasy about their safety.

Throughout the duration of his escape, law enforcement agencies in both Nebraska and Michigan collaborated tirelessly to locate and apprehend Collier. Their efforts finally paid off, bringing an end to a manhunt that had spanned several years.

As the legal process unfolds, the focus now shifts to the circumstances surrounding Collier’s escape and how improvements can be made to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The Roseville Police Department and the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services continue to urge anyone with information related to Collier’s escape or time on the run to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
