Statistical data reveal that there is no connection between bar application questions about mental health and attorney misconduct and that such questions have not been empirically shown to work as a successful screening tool for who can and cannot practice law in a competent manner.

— An excerpt from a resolution passed by the American Psychological Association earlier this week, condemning the required disclosure of mental health information by law school graduates applying to take the bar exam in their quest to become lawyers. The APA has pledged to work alongside the American Bar Association and state bar associations to remove these questions concerning mental health from would-be lawyers’ character and fitness reviews.
