Ashlyn Donohue of LinkSquares is an experienced general counsel, and she’s got some great advice.

That’s why we invited her onto the Non-Eventcast: to talk about the five things she wished she knew when she was a new in-house counsel.

First, she discusses the need to build projects in multiple parts (3:21).

Ashlyn also chatted about how important it is to use software in a standardized way, in part in order to streamline data management (4:49).

Additionally, she addressed how custom reporting can help in-house counsel to provide more detail into the quality of their work (9:22), including by presenting metrics for project success (14:03).

Ashlyn also took some time to cover the evolution of processes in an in-house environment, and how that has been iterative (18:54). Finally, she discussed how data also plays a part in the iterative process (19:26).

As a new in-house counsel, you’ve got a lot to figure out. Start by listening to this episode, to get yourself a head start.

And while you’re here, feel free to check out the Legal Operations section of the Non-Event to see the latest in tech upgrades. (The Above the Law Non-Event is supported by vendor sponsorships.)

Jared Correia, a consultant and legal technology expert, is the host of the Non-Eventcast, the featured podcast of the Above the Law Non-Event for Tech-Perplexed Lawyers.
