The Carmel, New York, Police Department recently released a heartwarming, and now viral, video featuring a German shepherd K-9 assisting his human partner in corralling a herd of escaped goats running loose on a roadway in Mahopac Falls.

The incident, which took place on September 25, began when Carmel police officer and K-9 handler Officer DeSantola responded to a call reporting loose goats in the area.

Upon arrival, DeSantola and his loyal K-9 companion, Pietro, encountered 30 goats blocking the road after escaping from a nearby pen.

Pietro sprang into action as if by instinct. The scene was captured on video, showcasing the canine’s superb herding skills as he guided the wayward goats back to their pen.

The Carmel Police Department was quick to share the footage on its Facebook page the following day, on September 26, where it garnered a significant amount of attention.

In the video, Pietro can be seen confidently running behind the goats, helping to clear the road and restore order.

“K9 Pietro, a German Shepherd, acted as the name implies and helped corral the goats quickly back into their pen! Nice job, K9 Cowboy,” the department wrote, in part, on its post.

The video has since gained traction on social media, amassing numerous views and likes, with people from all around the world expressing their admiration for Pietro’s efforts.

One Facebook user praised the heroic duo: “Great job K9 Pietro and Officer DeSantola!”

“Ye ha! Good shepherding!” Another user chimed in.

Many others echoed similar sentiments.

As the video continues to make rounds on the internet, K-9 Pietro has become an online sensation, receiving an outpouring of love and support from netizens.
