New Hampshire police officers recently went the extra mile to deliver a DoorDash order after the delivery driver was pulled over for alleged traffic violations.

The incident took place in October in Brentwood, after David Eldredge, a local resident, placed a DoorDash order from McDonald’s.

Little did he know that he would have an unexpected visit from the police that night.

“There’s a knock on the door, and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s DoorDash,’ and there’s a police officer there,” Eldredge told WMUR News.

Brentwood police officers, led by Officer Chris Spitalere, had initially pulled over the DoorDash driver for allegedly speeding. Spitalere conducted a thorough check of the driver’s information and found that both the driver’s license and her car registration were suspended in a neighboring state, making it illegal for her to continue driving.

“We had to take her car and get it off the road and gave her a ride, and she got picked up,” Spitalere said.

During the traffic stop, another officer, Robert McConn, arrived on the scene to assist Spitalere. On learning of the undelivered order, McConn suggested, “We probably should just get that delivered.”

The driver had receipts showing that her registration and license should have been reinstated, but at that late hour, the officers were unable to resolve the clerical error and had to arrest her. To prevent her from losing her job over the incomplete delivery, they decided to make sure that the order reached its destination.

“Sometimes, administrative issues can jam you up and it’s not really your fault, so we did what we could to try and help her on scene and obviously help her with DoorDash,” McConn explained.

The kind act did not go unnoticed; after McConn dropped off his food, Eldredge later expressed his gratitude for the thoughtful gesture.

“I thought, ‘There’s compassion in the police force,’” he told the Portsmouth Herald.

“That just exhibits what we do. We don’t just stop at the arrest, don’t just stop at the traffic ticket,” Brentwood Police Chief John Ventura said. “We kind of go above and beyond as much as we can.”

“After [McConn] left, I thought maybe I should’ve given him a tip,” Eldredge added with a smile.
