LEWISTON, Maine — Four plainclothes officers training nearby were the first to respond to the Lewiston mass shooting bowling alley scene, Fox News reported.
In an address detailing the police response to the shooting, Maine Public Safety Commissioner Mike Sauschuck announced that these officers were in a shooting range when they heard the call come in.
The officers responded to the bowling alley within 90 seconds of the first calls, according to the report. They did not have radios and were not in uniform.
“They hear it as they’re at the range. They respond to the threat and address it immediately and clear the building,” Sauschuck said.
It took the first uniformed Lewiston officer about 4 minutes to respond to the scene at 7 p.m., according to the report. Eight more officers arrived a minute later, and the first Maine state trooper arrived at 7:08.
At 7:08 p.m., the initial 911 call from Schemengees Bar and Grill came in and authorities arrived five minutes later, according to the report.
