DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. — North Carolina deputies discovered a GPS tracking device planted on one of their vehicles last week, according to WRAL.

The discovery was made when two employees were hooking up a trailer hitch, said Durham County Sheriff Mike Andrews.

“It appears that maybe that was done with some type of evil intent, to track whoever, or wherever that vehicle was at,” Andrews said. “Someone going to the extent of maneuvering to get to the vehicle, wherever it was parked at the time that the tracker was placed, is kind of alarming.”

The agency says deputies executed a search warrant on a theft suspect in 2021 who joked about putting a tracker on a deputy’s truck and made threatening phone calls to deputies, the report said. It’s unclear if that suspect is tied to this incident.

The device found was a Logistimatics 4G LTE 200 MOBILE Global Positioning Tracker, the report said.

No charges have been filed and the incident remains under investigation.
