EL CENTRO, Calif. — Body camera video released by the El Centro Police Department shows a man throwing a brick at officers, which ultimately led to a fatal shooting.

According to the department, officers were called to a neighborhood for a report of a man who had stolen two beers from a convenience store on Aug. 31.

When officers found the man walking on the sidewalk, the man had a beer in one hand and a brick in another hand. Police said he had threatened to hit a woman who had followed him out of the store.

Body camera video released Nov. 24 shows an officer urging the man to drop the brick several times. The man ignored officers and continued walking along the sidewalk while holding the brick.

As officers got out of their cruisers, they continued to command the man to drop the brick. The man then turned around and threw the brick at officers, leading to officers firing their weapons.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
