NEW YORK — Newly released surveillance and body camera footage shows a suspect shoot an NYPD officer during a foot pursuit.
The incident occurred on April 5 when a man was involved in an altercation on a bus, NYPD Assistant Commissioner of Public Information Carlos Nieves stated in the video release.
Surveillance video released on Nov. 30 shows the bus driver stop and hail a police officer on the street. Two officers, identified as officers Anthony Rock and Brett Boller, approach the bus door and tell the driver to open it.
As soon as the bus door opens, Devin Spraggins, 22, can be seen pushing the officers and attempting to flee the scene.
Surveillance footage then shows Boller catching up to Spraggins. The two had a brief physical struggle before Spraggins produced a firearm and shot Boller. After Boller falls to the ground, Spraggins can be seen pointing the gun at Rock. Rock then fired two shots but did not hit Spraggins.
Spraggins was later found and taken into custody without incident. He was arrested on numerous charges, including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and menacing a police officer.
Boller was taken to a hospital and underwent hip surgery. He was released from the hospital 10 days later.
