Bill Alexander (NLEOMF)

Following an extensive nationwide search, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) on December 5 announced that 30-year law enforcement veteran Bill Alexander has been named chief executive officer (CEO) of the leading nonprofit organization.

Alexander, 49, has served for five months as interim CEO during the search process and was previously NLEOMF’s executive director of its Memorial for nearly two years.

“All of us at NLEOMF were humbled and honored by the number of highly qualified persons who expressed interest in this position, and we can’t thank them enough for their dedication and passion of serving and honoring our law enforcement heroes and their families,” said Lori Sharpe Day, managing partner of the Ashcroft Law Firm and Board chairperson. “But at the end of the day and after very careful consideration, it was clear to the Board that Bill is the right person for this position. He has the extensive background, experience, dedication and knowledge to move our organization forward as we remain steadfast in our commitment to honor those who have sacrificed so much.”

“I have spent my adult life in the law enforcement profession, so it is an immense privilege to work in this leadership capacity while continuing the work of my predecessors in honoring both our fallen heroes and all those who so selflessly work to protect us all,” NLEOMF CEO Bill Alexander said. “We will forever exist to honor the men and women who have died in the line of duty, while our companion world-class Museum strives to tell their stories and the broader story of American law enforcement. We hope all citizens will join with us in our collective promise of being thankful and honoring those who risk everything while working to preserve our democracy, and to never forget those who serve and sacrifice everything while keeping our communities safe.”

Founded in 1984, NLEOMF is the sole nonprofit organization responsible for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., honoring the more than 23,000 officers who have died in the line of duty, a dedicated Museum located at Judiciary Square, and multiple programs and activities designed to promote awareness, appreciation and wellness for our nation’s law enforcement officers and their families.

Established in 1984, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the fallen, telling the story of American law enforcement, and making it safer for those who serve. The first pillar of this mission, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., honors the names of all of the 23,229 officers who have died in the line of duty to date throughout U.S. history. Additionally, NLEOMF maintains and publishes comprehensive details on the circumstances surrounding official line-of-duty deaths. The Officer Safety and Wellness pillar uses that data, coupled with best-practice program models, to produce programming directed at solutions to improve survivability and enhance wellness. NLEOMF’s third pillar, the National Law Enforcement Museum (LawEnforcementMuseum.org), is committed to preserving the history of American law enforcement and sharing the experiences of service and sacrifice for generations to come.
