When a Republican can’t get the Eleventh Circuit’s William Pryor — this Judge Pryor — to take their side, you know they’re in trouble. When Judge Pryor issues “to put it mildly, a total body slam,” against your argument, well, you’re in for a bad time.

Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows wanted the Georgia RICO charges against him stemming from his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election removed to federal court, claiming the charges were related to his work as a federal official. The Eleventh Circuit affirmed the district court ruling, with the aforementioned Judge Pryor basically saying, LOL, no.

Hogan Lovells partner Neal Katyal appeared on MSNBC’s The Beat last night to chat about the Eleventh Circuit’s “total body slam.”

“And to basically summarize what this long opinion says, Chief Justice Pryor just basically said, look, if you’re the White House chief of staff, launching a coup is not in your job description. That’s the opinion, plain and simple.”

And Katyal doesn’t think Meadows should be optimistic that the Supreme Court will save him on this one, saying, “I don’t think there’s any chance that this case is going to be something that the Supreme Court is going to grant and rule for Mark Meadows on. This is going nowhere fast.”
