Ariz. PD releases more bodycam videos of drowning incident

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Tempe Police Department has released more bodycam footage of a drowning incident that sparked outcry last week, AZ Family reported. The Phoenix suburb is reviewing its water rescue policies after an edited video showed officers apparently standing by while a man drowned. Last week, the Tempe Officers Association said the officers were not trained for water rescues and had followed protocol by waiting to get a boat. 

While the incident remains under investigation, police released hours of new footage on Tuesday from three body cameras that show the moments surrounding the event in more detail. These videos are also edited due to their sensitive nature and do not show the man’s drowning, according to AZ Family. The videos do show part of the water rescue effort from the police boat. 

Collectively, the videos total about five hours of footage. Tempe Police also released full transcripts of the event. Scroll down to read transcripts of the event or click below to watch the extended body camera footage on YouTube:
