Tells police she was scared of bad weather
A 39-year-old woman from Dothan, Alabama, was arrested in early January after allegedly making a false report of a burglary at her residence, citing fear of the weather as the reason, according to authorities.
On January 9, the Dothan Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from Kelley Carole Giniebra, who claimed that a burglary was in progress at her Houston County home.
Officers promptly responded to the call, only to find no evidence of a burglary taking place.
Following an investigation and a conversation with Giniebra, law enforcement officials uncovered that the reported burglary was fabricated. Her excuse? The bad weather.
Giniebra confessed that she had falsely reported the crime with the intention of having officers arrive at her residence quickly due to her fear of the inclement weather prevailing that day.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Florida, was in the process of assessing the aftermath of a tornado outbreak that occurred on January 9 that affected Houston County. The area experienced severe weather conditions, with one tornado classified as an EF1 with peak winds of 90 mph, and another as an EF2 with estimated peak winds of 130 mph.
The day in question also saw Dothan receiving over two inches of precipitation.
As a result of her actions, Giniebra has been charged with one count of making a false report to law enforcement. She was subsequently taken into custody by authorities. No further details have been provided regarding Giniebra’s legal proceedings or court appearances at this time.
