As noted by Law.com International, Perkins Coie just became the fourth Biglaw firm to shutter an office in China within the last eight months. The firm offered the following statement on the closure of its Shanghai office:

“China has one of the world’s most dynamic technology and business markets for established companies, venture capital, startups, and entrepreneurs and we remain committed as a firm to our China practice and clients.”

“We are providing significant support to our lawyers and staff in Shanghai during this transition and truly appreciate their commitment to the firm and our clients.”

Perkins Coie employs a handful of lawyers in its Shanghai office (three of whom are primarily based in the U.S.), as well as several patent consultants. The firm maintains at least one other office within China at this time (Beijing). It also has an office located in Taipei.

Best of luck to those who are being displaced thanks to Perkins Coie’s decision to close its Shanghai office.

Which Biglaw firm will be the next say zàijiàn to its offices in China? You can email us or text us (646-820-8477) if you have any intel. Thank you.
