MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — A man was arrested on Sunday morning in connection to the shooting of a Mountain View police officer, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department.
The individual, whose identity was not immediately available, was taken into custody after a sheriff’s surveillance plane tracked their car to a Black Bear Diner in Fremont. After authorities confronted the individual outside of the diner, a subsequent foot chase ended in an arrest without incident. U.S. Marshals aided in the arrest.
The arrest was made in response to an incident early Saturday morning where a police officer was shot when making a traffic stop on Villa Street and Wild Cherry Lane in Mountain View. After the shooting, the suspect later crashed their vehicle and ran away from the scene on foot.
The police officer suffered an injury to their upper body and did not shoot back at the suspect. The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later released.
