Ever wonder what Santacon enthusiasts do in the summer? For 124 of them, the answer appears to be dressing up as the notoriously short-winded author Ernest Hemingway.
Every year, Key West locale Sloppy Joe’s Bar tries to re-catch the magic of when the establishment was a regular haunt of the aforementioned Hemingway, and hosts a competition for those who bear a striking resemblance to the late author (and also Kris Kringle). Hemingway lived in Key West in the 1930s, and wrote “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and “To Have and Have Not” while a resident.
At the culmination of Key West’s Hemingway Days celebration, the latest winner of the competition was crowned. And this year’s winner is Florida attorney Jon Auvil.
Auvil has practiced in the Sunshine State for almost three decades, with a legal expertise in real estate, title insurance law, trusts and estates, and probate matters.
Besides the physical resemblance, Auvil also shares Hemingway’s love of fishing and writing. And there’s reportedly some hero worship there, “Every man wants to write like Hemingway.”
