The Wausau Police Department in Wisconsin recently responded to a bizarre apartment break-in where the intruder turned out to be a real turkey — literally.

The department posted a body-cam video of the encounter on Facebook, which depicted officers pursuing the wild bird from room to room, feathers flying, before ultimately apprehending their suspect.

“Did you ever hear your neighbor crashing around in their apartment, and think, ‘What is that turkey up to?’ Well, take a look at this service call a few of our officers responded to the other day,” the video caption read.

Apparently, the bird had smashed through a second-story window and landed inside the apartment. After being tipped off about the break-in from a 9-1-1 call, officers were specially equipped with a net and gloves to arrest the intruder.

As they prepared to enter the building, one officer could be heard requesting both items.

“It’s a turkey, not a tiger,” a fellow officer joked.

“What are you hiding over there for?” another officer teased.

After several attempts, the officers were able to capture the fluttering bird in the net and then released it into a nearby wooded area with just a warning.

The video was shared more than 11,000 times on the social media platform.

“You never know who or what you will be called on to rescue!! Great job!!” a user wrote.

The Wausau Police Department is rather experienced with animal encounters. Last year, officers helped a deer find its way out of a nursing home after it crashed through a window.
