COMPTON, Calif. — “Botts’ Dots,” or small bumps in the roadways used to deter drivers from performing donuts or spinouts, have been installed in two intersections in Compton, California.
These are the first set of Botts’ Dots that have been installed as a step to prevent street takeovers in the area, ABC7 reported. According to councilmember Andre Spicer, the small bump-like devices are only being placed in the busiest intersections in the city.
“These dots are supposed to stop the tires from spinning (burning rubber), which won’t allow cars to do donuts and tear up the streets and the property surrounding,” Spicer said. “We have already identified the intersections most used. If they are as effective as we hope they are, then we will explore placing them in other intersections.”
The installation of Bott’s Dotts, which started a week ago, was an idea sparked by community members. However, some Botts’ Dots have already been broken and one man says he got a flat tire from the broken devices. Nonetheless, Botts’ Dots are planned for two additional intersections, and, if they’re successful, more might be on the way.
