Pennsylvania police recently saved the day of a bride and groom who were left stranded on the way to their wedding after their ride broke down just before the ceremony.
In late August, Andrew and Rebecca Daniocek and their wedding party were on the way to the church for the ceremony when their limo suddenly stopped near the intersection of Beaver Grade and Thorn Run Road in Moon Township, located 12 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
“At first, we didn’t really know what was happening. Then we found out that it was broken down and we couldn’t move, so we called the police,” Andrew Daniocek told CBS Pittsburgh.
Fortunately, the intersection was close to the Moon Township Police Department.
The bride-to-be maintained a sense of humor.
“I just thought it was the funniest thing. Honestly, we got out and the police cars rolled up,” Rebecca Daniocek said. “Whether we were going to make it late to our own wedding or make it on time to the church, it was something to laugh about.”
Moon Township police immediately offered to give the couple a ride in their vehicles.
“Every day is something different in this job, but that was first,” Moon Township Police Sergeant David Stitch said.
Stitch was one of three officers who escorted wedding party members to the church.
“We’re here to help people, and that’s what we do,” Stitch said.
In a normal wedding, the first time everyone sees the bride is when she walks down the aisle, but that day was not destined to be normal.
Instead, the bride was greeted as she exited a police cruiser.
“They were all clapping and filming and shouting and just laughing. A funny moment for everyone,” Rebecca Daniocek said. “It’s going to be a memory forever.”
Saving weddings has been a theme for law enforcement on the East Coast this summer. In August, Boston police helped a groom and members of his wedding party get to an island across Boston Harbor after they were stranded by a ferry.
