Texas police recently detained an angry alligator after it scared a woman while she was withdrawing money from an ATM.
According to a social media post from the Lake Worth Police Department, officers wrangled the 3.5-foot alligator when it showed up to a local bank late at night on September 2.
The reptile’s capture was caught on video, which showed the animal thrashing on the floor after being caught in an officer’s catchpole.
Officers were mystified as to why the alligator was at the bank.
“We’ve never seen a gator outside of the lake, ever,” an officer can be heard saying in the video.
According to police, the alligator was subdued and safely relocated to a nearby appropriate habitat with help from the local Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden.
Police urged the public to “leave the handling of wild animals to the professionals at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department” and to call authorities if there is a dangerous animal outside its natural habitat.
Police also noted in its post that “no animals or officers were hurt during this incident.”
“Never a dull moment!” the post concluded.
Police near the gulf occasionally have encounters with gators, which are endemic to the region. Last year, deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Florida were called to remove an alligator that had wandered onto a family’s front porch.
