Tulsa, Oklahoma, police recently nabbed a serial burglar after a description of his colorful SpongeBob SquarePants attire ultimately led them to the suspect.
Authorities said Tulsa police initially responded to five separate robberies at Waterside Apartments near 17th Street and Jackson Avenue that took place between July 23 and September 13.
In each case, the door of the home was kicked in and electronics, guns and televisions were stolen.
Based on witnesses’ descriptions, the suspect was wearing bright shorts and socks depicting SpongeBob and other classic Nickelodeon characters during the robberies.
Shortly after the burglary spree, police discovered a match of the clothing items in the background of a Facebook Marketplace post attempting to sell the stolen goods.
Police credited the famous cartoon character for the tip and subsequently planned their arrest.
On September 16, Tulsa burglary detectives served a search warrant for a unit in the same apartment building and found the identifying clothing items in the dryer, thus catching the suspect red-handed.
“FYI, the suspect’s apartment was not located in an pineapple under the sea,” the Tulsa Police Department joked on Facebook.
Police recovered multiple guns, ammunition, televisions, cellphones, iPads and tablets, guns, internet routers and other electronics during the search. The stolen items have since been returned to the victims.
The suspect, identified as Edward Price, was arrested for second-degree burglary after a former felony conviction, illegal possession of a firearm and knowingly concealing stolen property.
Price, also known as “Smacc Man,” was neighbors with many of the victims.
“Price has been arrested for several burglaries in the past, but most of those charges were dismissed because of a witness failing to appear,” Fox News reported.
