The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia recently held a parade for a 7-year-old boy with a serious medical condition who’s a big fan of law enforcement.
“The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office’s SCOPE Unit (Sheriff’s Community Outreach Program & Education) was contacted and asked if they could help make a little boy’s day a little brighter. Landon is a 7-year-old little boy with a serious medical issue, who loves Sponge Bob, Halloween, cartoons and absolutely loves police officers,” the agency wrote on Facebook.
Landon had a special day when a convoy of 20 law enforcement vehicles showed up at his house to support him.
Douglas County Sheriff Tim Pounds and Chief Deputy Kenneth Conner stopped on the porch to say hello to Landon before the parade of cars drove by. Landon was presented with a special sheriff’s hat and other gifts, and even received a visit from a K-9.
Vehicles from units with the department, such as SCOPE, Heat and patrol units, as well as from the Douglasville Police Department, then drove by the front of the boy’s house while he watched from the porch, smiling.
“Most of us get into Law Enforcement to make a difference, to have a positive impact on someone’s life. To this little 7-year-old boy, we have always been his heroes. We left knowing that his heroes were there for him, showing him love, and showing him that he is a hero to us,” the sheriff’s office Facebook post said.
Photos posted by the department show Landon sitting in a wheelchair surrounded by his family as they greet the officers and watch the parade.
Landon’s grandfather recently retired from the Villa Rica Police Department.
