People across the Bay Area have been experiencing gusty winds and heavy rain Sunday with a number of resulting problem.
Below is a running list of issues that have cropped up amid stormy weather this week that we’ll be be continuing to update in the coming days.
Sunday, Feb. 4
Tree branches land on two parked cars in San Jose
An NBC Bay Area viewer posted this photo of tree branches that landed on two parked cars in the area of Leigh Avenue in San Jose Sunday afternoon. NBC Bay Area is reaching out to authorities for more information.
Fallen tree in San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood
A big tree was reportedly down in San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood on Lincoln Avenue Sunday. NBC Bay Area’s Laura Garcia has more details in the video below.
Downed trees reported in Napa
An NBC Bay Area viewer sent some photos of downed trees along the Silverado trail in Napa. NBC Bay Area is reaching out to authorities for more information on this incident.
Over 231,000 PG&E customers without power
As of 4 p.m., PG&E said that over 231,000 customers across the Bay Area are without power.
Hwy. 84 closed in Woodside
Downed power lines have closed Highway 84 in both directions at Friars Lane in Woodside, the San Mateo Country Sheriff’s Office shared on social media.
There is currently no estimated time of reopening, and drivers are asked to find alternate routes.
Palo Alto road reopened
Around an hour after reporting the closure of Embarcadero Road over a fallen electrical line, Palo Alto police said the road had been cleared in both directions.
SF blocked street cleared
The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management shared on social media that an incident on Fillmore Street, between Golden Gate Avenue and Turk Street, had been resolved.
Earlier in the day, the department had reported that all lanes there had been blocked after a large tree and wires came down.
Hwy. 1 closed in Monterey County
To the south of the Bay Area, Caltrans said Sunday downed trees and power lines has led to a full closure of Highway 1 at Corona Road in Monterey County.
There is currently no estimated time for reopening.
BART runs trains at slower speeds
BART shared on social media that it was running its trains at slower speeds due to the wet weather.
BART riders can keep an eye on their departure times through its app or on its website.
Thousand of PG&E customers without power
PG&E said at 9:56 a.m. that over 44,000 customers across the Bay Area were without power, noting that high winds can lead to downed power lines.

SF ferry suspends service indefinitely
The San Francisco Bay Ferry has suspended all service due to high winds and rough waters. Although the suspension is currently indefinite, the ferry hopes to resume service in the afternoon.
Flooding, hillside collapse on SF street
People in San Francisco are advised to avoid Market and 18th streets due to flooding and a hillside collapse, the city’s Department of Emergency Management said on social media. Market Street’s westbound lanes are also blocked by fallen trees.
Mudslide closes Hwy. 9 in Santa Clara County
A mudslide has closed both directions of Highway 9 at Sanborn Road in Santa Clara County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
There is currently no estimated time for its reopening.
Downed wires close Hwy. 1 in San Mateo County
Highway 1 has been closed in both directions at San Mateo County’s southern border due to downed power lines, Cal Fire said on social media.
It added that the closure will last for at least the next two to three hours.
PGA suspends AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
The final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am has been suspended until Monday morning, according to the PGA.
This news comes after the PGA delayed the start of the final round earlier in the day.
SF Public Works shares video of downed tree
San Francisco Public Works shared video on social media of a crew dealing with a downed acacia tree on Forest Side Avenue in the West Portal neighborhood.
Electrical line blocks Palo Alto road
A downed electrical line has blocked Embarcadero Road between Louis and Greer roads, Palo Alto police said on social media.
It added that the fire department and Palo Alto Utilities was on-site to deal with the issue.
Fallen tree and wires block SF street
A large tree and wires have fallen and blocked all lanes of Fillmore Street between Golden Gate Avenue and Turk Street, according to the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management.
The department added that emergency crews were already on scene and advised people to avoid the area.
San Francisco street floods
People in San Francisco are advised to avoid the area of 224 Haigh Street at Buchanan Street, the city’s Department of Emergency Management shared on social media.
It added that, as of 9:11 a.m., emergency crews were en route.
Wind causes delays at SFO
Wind is causing departures to San Francisco International Airport to be delayed by an average of 166 minutes, the FAA advised.
Departures from SFO are also being delayed by an average of 15 minutes, the FAA added, noting that the average is increasing.
Tree falls on car, closes Hwy. 101 in Santa Rosa
Northbound Highway 101 is closed at Todd Road in Santa Rosa after a tree fell on a car there, the Sonoma County Fire District posted on social media Sunday.
It added that another falling tree had nearly missed a house in Larkfield, and that other trees and wires were down across the county.
The district ended its post by advising: “Avoid any unnecessary travel.”
Fallen tree closes Palo Alto road
A section of eastbound Oregon Expressway in Palo Alto has been reopened after being shut down by a fallen tree, police shared on social media.
The tree had previously been blocking the road at Bryant Street.
The department advised that drivers use caution and keep an eye out for debris.
PG&E delays final round of AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
The final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is delayed until after noon Sunday, the PGA shared on social media.
It then added: “All tournament facilities are closed and further updates will follow.”
San Francisco Half Marathon canceled
The San Francisco Half Marathon announced on social media that it was canceling Sunday’s race out of an abundance of caution.
“Your medal and race shirt will be mailed to you in the coming weeks,” it advised registered participants in the post, adding that it would be also be in touch with next steps.
Tree falls onto Santa Rosa car port
A tree was blown onto a Santa Rosa car port overnight, with footage of it showing that it had been mostly uprooted.
It’s not the only downed tree first responders have had to deal with in the area Sunday morning, with the Santa Rosa Fire Department posting on social media that its crews has already responded to several by 6:45 a.m.
Power back on at Daly City’s Seton Medical Center
Seton Medical Center in Daly City is accepting patients again Sunday morning after an interruption caused by a power outage the night before.
The hospital started directing patients to other hospitals after its power stopped working Saturday night. As of Sunday morning, the power was back on.

Some Sonoma County roads closed preemptively
During the storm Sonoma County is expecting not just swollen rivers but also a lot of runoff, according to county officials. That means some low-lying areas are expected to flood, including some roads.
So county officials say they’re trying a new tactic to get ahead of the issue: preemptively closing some roads.
“We identified five roads that we have the most requests to rescue drivers,” said county Director of Public Infrastructure Johannes Hoevertsz. “And we are closing them at 7 p.m. on Sunday night. They will be closed at least until 7 a.m. on Monday morning.”
Those closures include portions of Slusser Road, Starr Road, Trenton-Healdsburg Road, Mark West Station Road and Green Valley Road.
Portion of Tesla Road closed to through traffic in Livermore
The California Highway Patrol announced Saturday that Tesla Road was closed to through traffic from Cross Road in Livermore to the Alameda County line. They added they will reassess Sunday evening.
San Jose officials issued a proclamation of local emergency Saturday night as up to two inches of rain were forecast for the city in the next 24 hours.
Unhoused people living along the Guadalupe River will be ordered to evacuate, the city said in a report on preparations for the arrival of a so-called atmospheric river.

Speaking with NBC Bay Area, PG&E spokesperson Megan McFarland said the utility company is preparing for the storms by using technology to determine where it’s likely to hit hardest.
“We’re bringing crews from the less-impacted areas into the very hard-hit areas so we can make repairs more efficiently,” McFarland said. “Another thing we’re doing is prestaging equipment at some of our hard-hit yards, that is stuff like transformers, wires, poles — equipment that is often damaged during storms. So this way, equipment is ready to go and our crews can get out there quickly and make repairs when they have a chance to do so.”

A large tree fell across Camellia Way near Springer Road in Los Altos Thursday morning, according to police.
The tree took down power lines and a power pole and destroyed a fire hydrant, police said.
No injuries were immediately reported.
Russian River flooding in Mendocino County
The Russian River overflowed its banks overnight Thursday near the town of Hopland in Mendocino County. Video showed flooding of Highway 175, east of downtown Hopland as well as a flooded vineyard nearby. A flood warning for the area reportedly was extended to 9 p.m. Thursday.
Highway 175 was fully closed from Highway 101 to McDowell Street in Hopland due to the flooding, according to Caltrans. There was no estimated time for reopening.

Tree falls on apartments in Daly City
A large tree came crashing down onto an apartment building in Daly City late Wednesday night, causing significant damage, but no injuries were reported.
Kashia School District to close Thursday due to weather
The Kashia School District in Sonoma County will be closed Thursday due to weather, the county Office of Education said.
The district has one school, Kashia Elementary, located in Stewarts Point on Skaggs Spring Road in the northern coastal area of the county.
The Sonoma County Office of Education said the closure is due to a power outage and other storm-related impacts.
East Bay crews prep for upcoming storms

A girl was injured Wednesday morning when strong winds caused a large tree to fall in Saratoga, according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department.
Fire crews responded to the 14000 block of Oak Place at about 8 a.m. on reports of the downed tree with a person trapped. They rescued the girl, and she was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, fire officials said.
Sonoma County school closures
Two schools in Sonoma County closed on Wednesday ahead of expected heavy rainfall in the region.
The Sonoma County Office of Education confirmed in a notice the closure of Kashia School, a K-8 school near the coast, and SunRidge School in the Twin Hills Union School District in Sebastopol.
No other public school district or school in the county has announced a storm-related closure.
