The Las Vegas Police Department is shocked and dismayed to report that the week of Valentine’s Day was extremely dangerous for pedestrians in the city. According to reports, there were three separate auto-pedestrian accidents on three consecutive nights in the Las Vegas Valley. The incidents occurred on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, and Friday.
The most recent incident occurred on February 16 at around 9:53 P.M. Reports say that a woman had a young child in a stroller and was walking southbound on Nellis Boulevard.
The woman went to make her way across Boulder Highway when the two were struck by a vehicle. According to the Metropolitan Police Department’s report, the vehicle had a green light when the incident occurred. Both individuals were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries.
One day prior, on Thursday night, another pedestrian was struck by a vehicle just a few blocks away from Friday’s incident. The incident was deemed a hit-and-run after the perpetrator fled from the scene after injuring the victim. According to police, the vehicle involved in the incident, a 2000 Jaguar S-Type, was later discovered abandoned. Police say the driver is still at large. Sadly, this incident was fatal for the victim, later identified as 53-year-old Beatrice Womack. This incident marked the 26th traffic death in Metro so far in 2024.
On Valentine’s Day, another pedestrian and vehicle accident occurred on West Charleston and Decatur Boulevard. The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
This string of pedestrian accidents goes to show that different accidents can have different causes. It also proves to show that how a driver responds to an accident matters. The only fatality occurred when the driver fled the area and didn’t alert the police.
Auto-Pedestrian Accidents: What Recourse is Available?
Have you ever been involved in a pedestrian accident, or have you lost a loved one in a pedestrian crash due to a driver’s negligence?
Pedestrian accidents often lead to countless losses. These losses may come in the form of medical bills, lost wages, long-term medical care, pain and suffering, and more. When a fatality is involved, those losses might include things like burial costs, funeral expenses, and a loss of financial and emotional support.
Depending on the circumstances of the accident, it might be possible for you to file for compensation to help cover those expenses. Nevada is considered an at-fault state when it comes to pedestrian accidents. That means the at-fault party will be expected to bear the financial responsibility for the losses from the accident. If you believe the driver was negligent, then it’s best to contact an attorney to determine if you have the basis to file a claim.
