In a press release on March 3rd, the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the death of 48-year-old Lejon Darden. According to the report, the Las Vegas resident was fatally injured after getting hit by an SUV in mid-February. Whether or not that crash had led to the victim’s death is unanswerable because the culprit reportedly fled from the scene.

Police say that Lejon Darden was crossing the road at Charleston Boulevard, which is east of Decatur Boulevard. It was about 9:30 P.M. at night on February 14th, and the SUV was headed west on Charleston when it struck Darden. The report says that Darden was not in a crosswalk.

It’s unclear how long the victim was suffering before someone called the police. When he was discovered, he was rushed to the University Medical Center, where he later passed away from his injuries.

Unfortunately, this traffic fatality was the 34th death in the Metro area in 2024. The crash is currently being investigated. Police have not released any details about the alleged suspect. Anyone with any information about the crash should call the Metro’s Collision Investigation Section at 702-828-3595.

Wrongful Death Accidents: How to Seek Financial Justice

Have you ever had a loved one who succumbed to fatal injuries as a result of an accident? If so, then it’s important to understand your legal options. In many situations, you can seek financial justice by filing a claim for compensation on behalf of your loved one. This claim can help you recover from the expenses you endured due to unexpectedly losing your loved one.

A wrongful death claim arises when someone else had a legal duty to provide for the care and safety of your loved one. There are many situations where a legal duty of care is assumed under the law, including when you’re behind the wheel of a vehicle. All drivers must be vigilant and provide for the safety of pedestrians, even when they aren’t in a crosswalk. Drivers also have a legal obligation to stop when there’s been an accident. A failure to report an accident with injuries is not only a civil violation but a crime, too.

You can still seek a wrongful death claim in Las Vegas even if you believe your loved one may have been partially to blame. Las Vegas operates on a modified comparative negligence standard, so you can collect partial compensation so long as your loved one wasn’t more than 50% to blame for the accident. Your compensation will be reduced based on their perceived level of fault.

The compensation you can collect after a wrongful death includes burial costs, funeral expenses, medical bills prior to your loved one’s passing, a loss of financial support, pain and suffering, and more.

Do you believe you might have the basis to file a wrongful death claim after losing your loved one in an accident? If so, then it’s important to hire the right representation. Schedule a call with our law office now to learn more about how we can help.
