In Las Vegas, you’d think walking or riding your bike along the sidewalk would be relatively safe, especially when it comes to passing vehicles and traffic. The reality isn’t so positive, though, as there has been an increase in sidewalk pedestrian fatalities over the past several years.

Even worse, many of these sidewalk pedestrian versus vehicle accidents are also hit-and-runs.

This type of accident is becoming far too common, as another life was lost just last month on Reno Avenue. Learn more about this recent tragedy and what to do if you ever get involved in a sidewalk accident as a pedestrian below.

Vehicle Strikes 67-Year-Old Bicycle Rider and Flees the Scene

At around 9:35 P.M. on March 12th, a 67-year-old Las Vegas resident was riding his bicycle along Reno Avenue. Suddenly, a pickup truck seemingly swerved from the westbound lane on Reno into the eastbound lane and then into the south sidewalk area. The truck struck both the pedestrian on the bicycle and a parked car that was in a nearby driveway.

According to reports, the truck allegedly fled from the scene.

The bicycle rider was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he tragically passed away shortly later.

What to Do If You Get Struck by a Vehicle as a Pedestrian in Las Vegas

If you were a pedestrian who was walking or riding your bicycle on the sidewalk and you were struck by a vehicle, then there’s a great chance you suffered a significant injury in the accident. If you didn’t receive treatment at the scene of the accident, then you need to get medical care as soon as possible after the incident. Doing so protects your rights if you hope to seek out a claim later.

If your doctor diagnoses you with an injury or condition during your exam, then ask for a copy of that diagnosis for your records. Make sure to keep copies of any medical bills you receive, too. Next, be sure to follow your doctor’s orders, which might mean taking time off of work to recover. If that’s the case, then ask your employer to write a letter for you stating how much time you’re expected to miss off work and how much you would’ve received in income if you didn’t get injured.

Once you’ve taken these steps, you should reach out to a Las Vegas personal injury attorney.
