We recently had a chance to sit down with South Carolina personal injury and workers’ compensation attorney James “Jamie” George of Chappell, Smith & Arden to talk about his law school days, the advice he gives to prospective clients, and the one superpower he wishes he had.
Beginnings
Jamie George graduated from Presbyterian College in 2015. He enrolled in law school at the University of South Carolina School of Law based on a general interest in learning about the law and how the legal system functions.
As a law student, his interest in the law blossomed into a passion when he was able to take his first mock depositions in a civil litigation capstone class.
During law school, Jamie served as a member of the editorial staff and as a student works editor for the South Carolina Law Review. Upon graduating from law school cum laude in 2018, he was admitted to the Order of the Wig and Robe, an organization founded in 1935 that recognizes students with the most outstanding scholastic records.
Career as a South Carolina personal injury and workers’ compensation attorney
Jamie joined Chappell Smith & Arden after law school. His practice focuses on car accident claims, product liability claims, and workers’ compensation claims.
Jamie has had many proud moments as an attorney, but he’s particularly proud of the cases in which he was able to develop a strong bond with his client.

Advice to prospective clients
Jamie believes prospective clients should pay close attention to a lawyer’s reputation before hiring them. Fortunately for Jamie, he has spent years building a stellar reputation in South Carolina.
Jamie is an active member of a number of important organizations, including the American Association for Justice, the South Carolina Association for Justice, and the South Carolina Bar Association.
Jamie has also been recognized by his peers for his outstanding work. In 2017, he was awarded the prestigious Irving Steinberg Memorial Award for his work in the field of workers’ compensation. He has also received several Center for Computer Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI) awards.
Life outside of the courtroom
In addition to knowing how to lay a solid foundation for a case, Jamie knows how to lay a solid foundation for his feet. He spends much of his free time working in his yard and believes that if he wasn’t practicing law, he would be working in landscaping or turf management.
After work hours, Jamie can also be found mountain biking, playing with his dogs, or roaming the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, South Carolina.

Q. What are the best and worst parts of your job?
A. The best part of my job is helping deserving clients. The worst part is the systems, companies, or people who make seeking justice unnecessarily slow or difficult.
Q. What’s the biggest misconception about personal injury attorneys?
A. That we constantly file frivolous lawsuits.
Q. What is your role in the attorney-client relationship?
A. Providing advice and guidance, maintaining client confidence, and pursuing claims on their behalf.

A. Lt. Daniel Kaffee (star of A Few Good Men).
Q. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
A. The ability to fly. I like airplanes in general, but I think it would be very excited to simply jump and soar around as I please.
